Adnan Arif, MD

Dr Arif was born in England and grew up in Pakistan. He is a 3rd generation doctor, including his grandfather, his father and older brother. He moved to the United States after medical school in 2000.
He completed his Psychiatry Residency training at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and additional fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry till 2006. He then practiced in Northwest Indiana till 2010, and then in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago at Palos Medical Group till the end of 2019, before joining DuPage Medical Group. He also held administrative positions such as medical director of Psychiatry at Community Health Systems of Northwest Indiana, and Chairman of Psychiatry for Palos Medical Group in his prior roles. He is Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and re-certified in 2016.

Dr Arif enjoys using a “patient-centered approach” for treating people that involve not just psychiatric medications, but also supportive therapy and psychological education. He likes to empower the people he treats by giving them the tools and knowledge to make positive changes. “Knowledge is empowering” he likes to quote. “The more you know, the more motivation you will have to think in a different, more positive way, and make positive changes in your life.”
Dr Arif likes to incorporate genetic testing (when appropriate) and has been actively involved in procedures to treat depression, such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). He also likes to incorporate clinical concepts from functional medicine, treating people from a holistic approach, education about lifestyle, diet, exercise changes and avoidance of environmental and dietary toxins that contribute to illness.
When he is not working, Dr Arif enjoys hobbies such as aviation and personal fitness, and is an active musician, playing guitar, piano and drums.
