About Angela Taylor Shields, M.A., L.C.P.C.

Philosophy of Care

I am passionate about empowering others to become their most authentic selves. I am a fit for someone who is seeking thoughtful inner work versus symptom management, utilizing an eclectic approach informed by Psychodynamic, Family Systems, Mindfulness, and trauma-informed therapies. I bring a warm and open approach to the therapy process; nurturing a collaborative relationship where clients can freely explore feelings and safely process challenges. I admire and honor the courage of my clients, and I want individuals to leave our therapy space feeling seen, heard, and valued. Exploring emotional hurts is not for the faint of heart, but the journey is worthwhile. On the other side of facing pain is a greater sense of wholeness and freedom. People are capable of tremendous growth, and therapy can be a tool for discovering the potential of a fuller life. It has been my privilege to walk this sacred path with others for over 25 years. I have watched clients move from places of doubt to confidence, from shame to self-worth, from grief to joy, and from despair to hope.

Clinical Interests
My clinical interests include relational conflict/communication difficulties; developing healthy emotional and relational boundaries; building self-esteem and releasing shame; exploring family-of-origin wounds and messages; adjustment challenges; and spiritual growth. I also spend much of my practice addressing Women’s Issues, focusing on areas such as self-care; relational challenges; development of a strong sense of identity; and divorce transitions. I have much experience walking with women through concerns related to infertility, pregnancy, post-partum, and parenting, and I am also a safe space for women who may be dealing with post-abortion challenges. Walking with others through loss and grief (whether processing the loss of a loved one, a relationship, an opportunity, or a hope) is an additional clinical passion.
Personal Interests
In addition to being a therapist, I also enjoy filling my life with family, prayer, soulful music, bold coffee, art & creativity, inspiring books, and snuggles with my dog Zoey. I enjoy being a life-long learner of history and cultures, and podcasts are a common companion when on the road. I’m a soccer mom, savoring moments with my three teenage sons and cheering them on in their dreams. My favorite place is by the ocean.
