After training at USF in family medicine and practicing primary care and emergency medicine for roughly ten years, I retrained in general psychiatry at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and addiction medicine at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, as my interest in human health expanded to a more integrative and holistic approach. My approach is not simply to target psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety or depression with medication, but to investigate the roots and causes, whether insufficient sleep, an inadequate diet, or excessive alcohol are contributory factors, or childhood adversity and family of origin conflict, subconscious scripts and defense mechanisms, or distorted worldviews and self-defeating behaviors.
