As a psychiatrist, I believe that connecting with patients involves an empathic approach coupled with an ability to clearly explain concepts and treatment options for them to make an informed decision without feeling pressured. I believe acknowledging and accepting people in whatever stage of life and crisis they may find themselves in fosters a healthy therapeutic relationship that can be sustained for many years.
