Duly Health and Care Hosts Annual "Throw Cancer in the Slammer Night" at Joliet Slammers Game June 20 to Celebrate Cancer Survivors and Promote Prevention

DOWN­ERS GROVE, Ill. – Duly Health and Care and the Joli­et Slam­mers are team­ing up to cel­e­brate the community’s can­cer sur­vivors while rais­ing aware­ness about impor­tant can­cer screen­ings at the annu­al ​“Throw Can­cer in the Slam­mer Night” at the Slammer’s June 20 home game. 

“We are proud to spon­sor this event each year to cel­e­brate our resilient can­cer sur­vivors and their fam­i­lies while pro­mot­ing how annu­al rou­tine screen­ings can help save lives,” said Anand Shah, MD, Can­cer Com­mit­tee Chair and Depart­ment Chair of Radi­a­tion Oncol­o­gy for Duly Health and Care. 

“Unfor­tu­nate­ly, can­cer has touched the lives of so many that vis­it the sta­di­um each year,” states Heather Mills, CFO and Gen­er­al Man­ag­er of the Joli­et Slam­mers. ​“It’s such an hon­or to part­ner with Duly Health and Care and have the plat­form to let those whose lives have been touched by can­cer know they are not alone.” 

Dur­ing the event at Duly Health and Care Field, Duly providers will be on hand near left field to talk with atten­dees and pro­vide edu­ca­tion­al mate­ri­als to pro­mote screen­ings for var­i­ous can­cers such as breast, cer­vi­cal, colon, lung, skin, and prostate. A Duly der­ma­tol­o­gist will offer free rapid skin checks and pro­vide guid­ance on skin can­cer prevention.

Can­cer patients and can­cer sur­vivors will be hon­ored dur­ing a pre-game parade, and Dr. Nafisa Burhani, an oncol­o­gist and hema­tol­o­gist at Duly Health and Care will throw out the first pitch.

In addi­tion, The Amer­i­can Can­cer Soci­ety’s giant pink inflat­able chair will be on hand for pho­tos, and atten­dees will have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to cap­ture mem­o­rable moments with one of the Slam­mers’ mascots.

Gates open at 5:35 p.m., and the event starts at 6:35 p.m. Tick­ets are avail­able for $2 each.
