In Recognition of Men's Health Month in June, Duly Health and Care Maps Out Screenings Men Need at Every Stage of Their Health Journey

May 31, 2023

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — June is Men’s Health Month and Duly Health and Care, the largest independent, multi-specialty physician-directed medical group in the nation, is sharing a roadmap of the important health screenings men need to schedule at every stage of their health journey.

Studies show that men are less likely than women to schedule an annual check-up or preventative care, so Men’s Health Month helps raise awareness on the importance of health screenings at every age,” said Dr. Michael Fitzgerald, a family medicine physician with Duly Health and Care. The best way to stay healthy is to be proactive with your health, establishing a primary care physician as a trusted partner to help navigate screenings and detect the onset of diseases or health concerns early so they don’t become serious problems.”

Duly maps out the important screenings men need at every age group – from men in their twenties and beyond. (See graphic at the bottom of press release.)

According to 2021 data from the CDC, the life expectancy for men in the United States was 73.2 years – approximately six years less than women, and the leading causes of death were heart disease and cancer. Mental health issues are also common among men — the suicide rate for males was four times higher than that of women in 2021. Additionally, men are more likely to participate in behavior that puts their health at risk such as smoking and drinking alcohol for example, reinforcing the need for men to take charge of their health.

Factors that keep men from seeing physicians routinely are the fear of what a screening might uncover, reluctance to have uncomfortable conversations and finding time to see a physician with work and family obligations,” Fitzgerald said. The most important first step for men is finding a primary care doctor they like and trust so that those conversations become easier.”
