Dry needling, like acupuncture, uses thin filiform needles to penetrate the skin. Instead of inserting these needles into traditional acupuncture points, dry needling goes directly into a muscular trigger point. The needle is then manipulated to elicit a muscular twitch response. This response helps release the trigger point and reduce the spasm. Dry needling is used to reduce pain and improve movement.
