The Importance of a Primary Care Physician

A primary care physician, commonly known as a PCP, is your main health care provider that plays an essential role in helping you navigate your health care journey. Your PCP conducts your annual preventive care visit, ordering appropriate lab work and imaging dependent on your age and medical history, in an effort to identify and monitor potential health problems early. PCPs help you manage your health by offering ideas on healthy lifestyle choices, identifying and treating common medical conditions, assessing the urgency of your medical issues and referring you to a specialist, when needed.
