When it comes to lung and thoracic cancers, early detection, precision treatment, and ongoing support make all the difference. At the Brian Moran Cancer Institute, our Thoracic Oncology team brings together expertise, compassion, and advanced technology to deliver care that’s fast, coordinated, and designed around you.
Why choose our thoracic cancer care
Personalized, coordinated care from the start
Your journey begins with a dedicated Thoracic Oncology Nurse Navigator — your personal point of contact through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. With specialized knowledge in lung and thoracic cancers, your navigator helps schedule appointments, explain test results, and guide you and your family through every step of care.
Our multidisciplinary team of thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, medical and radiation oncologists, and interventional specialists collaborates closely to develop your personalized plan. We make sure you’re seen quickly and have access to the right treatments without unnecessary delays.
Advanced technology and treatments
Our thoracic program combines innovation with compassion to detect and treat cancer precisely and effectively. We use the latest tools and approaches, including:
- Low-dose CT (LDCT) lung screening for early detection in eligible patients
- ION robotic bronchoscopy for precise, minimally invasive lung biopsy and diagnosis
- Minimally invasive and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery to shorten recovery and preserve lung function
- Precision radiation therapy customized to the tumor’s shape and movement
- Targeted and immunotherapies guided by biomarker testing to match treatment to your tumor’s unique profile
- Precision testing, including genetic and genomic analysis through partners like Tempus, to help guide each treatment decision
- Access to clinical trials offering next-generation treatment options close to home
Treatments we offer
We treat the full range of thoracic malignancies, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, mediastinal tumors, and chest wall cancers. Every plan is built around what’s best for you to balance effectiveness, recovery, and quality of life.
Surgical treatments
Our surgeons perform minimally invasive and robotic-assisted thoracic surgeries to remove tumors while protecting healthy tissue and preserving lung function whenever possible.
Radiation therapy
We use advanced image-guided and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT/IGRT) to deliver precise, targeted doses that limit damage to nearby organs.
Systemic and targeted therapies
Your medical oncologist may recommend chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or biomarker-directed targeted therapy to treat your cancer throughout the body.
These therapies are selected based on the molecular and genomic characteristics of your tumor — ensuring a personalized approach for the best possible outcome.

Clinical trials and research
Clinical trials give eligible patients access to innovative therapies and biomarker-driven treatments that may not yet be widely available. Our team will review available trials with you and help coordinate participation when appropriate.
Current thoracic and lung cancer clinical trials and research:
- NCT07144280 — Brian Myre, MD — A Randomized, Phase 3, Open-Label Study to Evaluate PF-08046054/SGNPDL1V Versus Docetaxel in Adult Participants With Previously-Treated Programmed Cell Death Ligand 1 (PD-L1) Positive Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
- NCT05468489 — Nafisa Burhani, MD — A Randomized, Open-label Study of HLX10 plus Chemotherapy (Carboplatin-Etoposide) in comparison with Atezolizumab plus Chemotherapy in Previously Untreated US Patients with Extensive Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer (ES-SCLC)
- NCT06246110 — Nafisa Burhani, MD — A Phase 2 Study of EIK1001 in Combination with Pembrolizumab and Chemotherapy in Patients with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Screening and prevention
Early detection saves lives. At Duly, 75% of lung cancers found through our screening program are detected at stage 1 or 2, when treatment is most effective, and outcomes are best. If you’re at increased risk for lung cancer, talk with your provider about whether a low-dose CT (LDCT) screening is right for you. Orders can be placed by your primary care provider, pulmonologist, or oncologist.
To schedule a lung cancer screening LDCT, call 630−545−7880.
