Radiation therapy uses targeted energy to kill cancer cells, shrink tumors and provide relief of certain cancer-related symptoms. Radiation oncologists are a part of the Duly Health and Care Integrated Oncology Program and use the latest technology to deliver leading-edge cancer treatment. The goal of radiation therapy is to deliver a precisely measured dose of radiation to a defined tumor volume with minimal damage to surrounding normal tissue, resulting in eradication of the tumor, a higher quality of life and prolongation of survival. The treatments are typically given every day for a number of weeks. Radiation can be a primary treatment, palliative treatment and is often used in combination with surgery and chemotherapy.
